The physical metallurgy of Nimonic series alloys is well documented. Nickel and chromium are in a uniform solid solution in Nimonic 75, with carbides occurring within the grain boundary. At high temperatures, this metal has excellent mechanical properties and is resistant to oxidation, heat, and corrosion. Nimonic 75 is used in a variety of high-temperature applications due to its resistance to heat and corrosion.

The metal alloy Nimonic 75 is an 80/20 nickel-chromium alloy with titanium and carbon additions that are controlled. It is a high-strength metal that was first used in the Whittle jet engine prototype in the 1940s. This alloy is simple to manufacture and has excellent heat and corrosion resistance. It is available in hexagon flats or extruded sections. It is lightweight and can be welded.

The Nimonic 75 sheet has a thickness of 1.232 mm. The results were nearly identical to those obtained in Inconel 718 trials. The edging operation produced an average flange radius of 3.81 mm. Figure 21 shows the edged results. The edging process resulted in a negative radius and an underside lip. The resulting microstructure was comparable to Inconel 718.
