High Manganese Steel Plate

For resistance to significant impact and abrasive wear, Sheffield’s 14 percent manganese steel plate is a real Hadfield Austenitic high manganese steel plate. This product can withstand 550 BHN of service hardening. When considering shaping, drilling, or machining, caution should be given because this substance hardens under cold work circumstances. Standard manganese electrodes can be used to weld steel that contains 14 percent manganese. Please only employ trained workers who are accustomed to handling this kind of material. It is not advised to drill this product. high manganese steel plate is a hard but brittle metallic element that is gray-white in color with a reddish undertone. Being a reactive element, a high manganese steel plate easily interacts with both air and water. It is a steel with a relatively large component of about 10-14% of manganese; highly resistant to wear and shock. The original austenitic manganese steel contains about 1.2%C and 12% Mn.

High Manganese Steel Plate Advantages:

  • Resistance to heavy impact and extreme abrasion.
  • Will quickly harden to 550BHN.
  • Retains ductility the entire time.
  • The grade for Hadfield.
  • Is weldable.
  • Is non-magnetic in nature.
  • It can be cut using a laser, water jet, plasma, or oxy-acetylene torch.
  • Made to the strictest industry standards for long service life.

The term “work hardening” describes how steel is progressively harder as it is crushed or subjected to impact. The original hardness of the “Hadfield” grade was around 220. Continued compression and/or impact will cause the surface to harden to over 550. It should be emphasized that the skin only hardens on the outside. The underlying layer is still extremely ductile and robust. The surface continuously renews itself as it ages, getting harder and tougher. Being an austenitic steel, a high manganese steel plate is non-magnetic. This characteristic makes it suitable for a variety of applications, including wearing shoes for electric brakes, separating drum shells for magnetic materials, bottom plates for lifting magnets, etc.
