Guide to 409m Chemical Composition

The modified form of SS 409, also known as SS 409M, contains about 0.03 percent less carbon than the original. Carbon steels and low-alloy steels fill this role when increased strength, resistance to abrasion, weldability, and slide-ability are required. At high temperatures, it has good scaling & oxidation resistance, especially in sulfur-containing atmospheres. It is employed in the areas/bunkers, transportation, sugar, petrochemical, agricultural, fishery, mining & quarrying, sewage systems, and general engineering sectors for the handling of bulk solids.

Applications of 409M Grade

The steel alloy 409M has primarily been used in the automotive exhaust industry, but it has also been widely used in a wide range of other industrial applications. The use of Alloy 409M Sheets in gas heaters and other high-temperature applications is therefore likely. They work in many different industries, such as the railroad, chemical, and cement sectors.

The chemical makeup of 409m chemical composition differs slightly from that of the original form. This grade also includes 0.04 percent phosphorus, 0.03 percent sulfur, and 0.03 percent nitrogen, as well as 0.03 percent carbon, 1 percent silicon, 0.5 to 1.5 percent manganese, 10.80 to 12.50 percent chromium, 1.5 percent nickel, and other elements.
